THE LOCATIONIST TOURS UK
SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT
At The Locationist, we recognize our responsibility and are committed to minimizing the impact the business has on the environment. We strive to reduce our carbon footprint and have implemented a range of initiatives to ensure the tours are as eco-friendly as possible.
As tourism is one of the largest economic sectors in the world, which is showing signs of regrowth post-pandemic, this continues to have a huge impact on the environment in a multitude of ways including exponential consumption of natural resources, with a rise in emissions.
As we only offer walking tours of film and TV locations, we do not have any output of any vehicle emissions into the atmosphere or contribute to vehicle traffic, and only create a small ecological footprint.
To ensure that our tours are as sustainable as possible, we take the following measures: We use public transport, and walk as much as possible; We make sure all of our tour guides are informed about the importance of sustainability. We have a zero-waste policy, urging all of our customers to bring their own reusable water bottles and bags on the tour.
We use recycled paper for our print media with a limited run, opting to maximise on digital media, and only use environmentally conscious companies for office supplies. We have minimized our use of single-use plastic and have implemented a number of energy-saving measures. We are proud to be an environmentally friendly tour and are continuously looking for new ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We encourage our customers to take part in our sustainability initiatives and join us on our journey to a more sustainable future.
Tour manager and lead tour presenter, Lee Perkins 'I make a concise effort to make my business environmentally friendly, by working remotely from home in regards to tour operations/administration. I opt to walk for 40 minutes to the train station on tour days, which is both great for my mental health, cardiovascular systems, and the environment. Once I get to the train station I use the shortest journey via train to get to the tour location in Birmingham or Manchester to minimize train emissions. I then walk to the meeting point for the tour, choosing not to use public transport and adding to traffic congestion or adding to emissions. I repeat all this returning home, and walking home for another 40mins. Also to add during the tour I carry a reusable flask bottle, and wear a recycled tote bag. I actively promote in the tours itinerary e-booklet I send to all guests, to consider using a reusable bottle to drink from during the tour experience. I actively promote independent businesses with good ethics, and sustainability plans, by recommending them in my emails of places to visit'.
Finally, we are committed to leaving no trace on any of the locations we visit or along the tour route.
